ABOUT THE FILM

Bone Tomahawk is a 2015 film directed by S. Craig Zahler who also wrote the screenplay. It was his directorial debut film and the final film represents the first draft of the script. It was co-produced by Jack Heller and Dallas Sonnier. Bone Tomahawk stars Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, Richard Jenkins, Lili Simmons, David Arquette, Sid Haig and Sean Young.

The film is set at the turn of the century around the border of what is now Texas and New Mexico. The storyline follows an outlaw who unknowingly leads a band of cannibalistic Troglodytes into the peaceful western town of Bright Hope. While there the monsters kidnap several inhabitants, including the wife of a local rancher. Despite being injured he joins a small rescue party with the sheriff, his ageing deputy and a strong-willed gunslinger. What follows is a journey into hell on earth as the posse comes to realise it is up against a foe whose savagery knows no bounds.

Principle photography was completed Malibu, California. It was completely filmed at the Paramount Ranch which provides a Western style town and open landscape areas.

When Bone Tomahawk was released it received positive reviews from the critics. The film was praised for its acting (particularly for Kurt Russell, Richard Jenkins and Matthew Fox), realism, S. Craig Zahler’s direction and the dialogue of his screenplay.

On Rotten Tomatoes it holds a 90% rating with the consensus “Bone Tomahawk’s peculiar genre blend won’t be for everyone, but its gripping performances and a slow-burning story should satisfy those in search of something different”. Bone Tomahawk received numerous nominations and awards.

Commercially, Bone Tomahawk was produced on an estimated production budget of $1.8m, however, I am unable to determine full opening weekend or total box office receipts as this information is not available.

Poster Collector

Simon, is a movie poster warrior who collects far too much. He also writes posts, articles, and guides for The Poster Collector. He also fancies himself a bit of a sports star in his hometown and spends too much time researching and finding new movie posters to acquire. If he’s not typing away at his keyboard or searching auctions, you can probably find him watching James Bond or Star Wars (or both).
